BigBand’s Industry-Leading Edge QAM Platform Once Again Powers
Delivery of New Services to Gehua’s Subscribers

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:BBND), today announced that long-time
customer Beijing Gehua Cable TV Network (“Gehua Cable”) has chosen
BigBand’s industry-leading BEQTM Edge QAM platform to deliver
Video on Demand (VOD) to its customers. This new project follows the
2010 selection of BigBand’s BEQ platform for Gehua’s interactive HDTV
and broadband Internet services. Adding high-quality VOD services is
designed to satisfy subscribers’ growing demand for content and add
value to the overall cable offering, helping to reduce subscriber churn
and generate greater average revenue per user (ARPU).

“It is an honor to be selected once again by Beijing Gehua Cable TV
Network for its latest VOD QAM project offering. Gehua has proven itself
to be an innovator and a leader in its market”

Gehua’s large-scale cable network covers all 18 districts of the Beijing
metropolitan area and transmits more than 100 channels to 3.2 million
people. Gehua and BigBand have had a strong history of successful
deployments that have brought some of China’s most advanced digital
video offerings to its subscribers. The cable provider relied on the
BigBand Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR®) to provide
coverage of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics to more than 1.7 million of
its digital TV viewers. BigBand’s BMR platform continues to be used
today in Gehua’s digital TV network headend system for reliable delivery
of video content.

“It is an honor to be selected once again by Beijing Gehua Cable TV
Network for its latest VOD QAM project offering. Gehua has proven itself
to be an innovator and a leader in its market,” said Amir
Bassan-Eskenazi, CEO, President and Co-founder of BigBand Networks.
”Meeting the bandwidth demands for more video applications and services
helps operators, like Gehua, stay ahead of the competition, while
opening up a large market opportunity for BigBand. Digital video service
providers around the world can benefit from our industry-leading Edge
QAM platforms.”

Over 60 customers worldwide have deployed more than 900,000 QAM channels
with BigBand. BigBand’s industry-leading Edge QAM platforms provide
combined support for broadcast, SDV, VOD, IP video, modular CMTS, and
DOCSIS® applications, including 3.0-compatible delivery
service. From single purpose QAMs to a multi-service platform, the
company offers service providers the flexibility to choose the right
platform for their deployment, space, and power consumption needs.
